Happy Birthday to our Robert, aka Rob.
We couldn’t possibly let this day go by without saying a great big heart felt thank you to Rob, for all that he does for us & with us here at The Old Well Garden Centre.
It’s been one heck of a 12 months for the Lamyman family & our team - before, during & after the fire - yet Rob has kept us all going, day in day out, leading by example.
Employing & co-ordinating a team of 50-60 staff, running a multi faceted independent business 7 days a week is not easy.
Thank you Rob for steering the ship, for always being there, and for genuinely mucking in when ever and where ever needed.
We’re lucky to have you - questionable fancy dress costumes & quizmaster skills too!

July is here | a fantastic month for enjoying your garden.
This month many flowers, fruits and veggies reach their peak. Here’s our top tips for the month ahead. . .
💚 WHAT TO ENJOY NOW
• Beautiful blooms galore - summer flowering shrubs, perennials, and climbers are at their best in July. Roses, Clematis, Hydrangeas, Lavender, Dahlias and more putting on a fine show!
• Delicious Fruits - Blackberries, early plums, gooseberries, raspberries, and blueberries should be ready for picking.
• Veggies - Courgettes, garlic, runner beans, beetroot, peas, chard, potatoes, salad leaves, and tomatoes are all likely to be ready for harvest.
• Pollinators - Busy bees, butterflies & friends hard at work.
• Outdoor Living - July's warm weather makes it ideal for alfresco time in the garden.
💚 WHAT TO PLANT THIS MONTH
Veggies - French beans, spring cabbage, lettuce, spring onion & salad leaves can be sown for a quick harvest.
Brassicas - You can start sowing winter cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts ready for those autumn & winter harvests.
Herbs - Sow coriander and other herbs for later use.
Biennials - Sow seeds for wallflowers, foxgloves, and honesty to get a head start on next spring's flowers.
💚 GARDENING JOBS FOR JULY
Deadhead - Regularly remove faded flowers from roses, sweet peas, and other plants to encourage more blooms.
Water - Keep plants well-watered, especially during warmer weather. Remember to water in the mornings or evenings to reduce evaporation.
Harvest - Pick vegetables regularly to encourage further production and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Prune - Cut back faded perennials like geraniums for a second flush of flowers and prune wisteria.
Taking Cuttings - July is a good time to take cuttings from shrubs and alpines.
Whatever your plans for the month to come, we’ll be right here to welcome you throughout the Garden Centre, Gift Shop, Restaurant Tea Room & Glass House Cafe.
Let’s make it a good one 💚 ... See MoreSee Less

National Cream Tea Day | The perfect excuse to enjoy
the most popular item on our Restaurant Tea Room
& Glass House Cafe Menus.
A scrumptious home made scone with plenty of local strawberry jam & clotted cream - just the ticket ❤️
But the big question is . . . how do you eat yours?
Is it cream first for you? - aka the Devon way!
Or are you firmly in camp jam first? - the Cornish way.
Do you slice your scone to eat half and half?
Or do your place it back together to create a sweet, jammy, creamy sandwich?
Three guesses who scoffed which here at the Garden Centre this afternoon! ... See MoreSee Less
